Goat fish (red mullet) was an obligatory dish on a table in Ancient Rome. The fish was highly valued: it was bought by weight in equivalent to silver weight. An amount paid for this fish was sufficient to buy a slave. Besides, the Romans valued morays that were kept in swimming pools and were often decorated with golden bracelets, chains and earrings.
