Everyone knows carp. In Greek language ‘carp’ means ‘offspring’. In fact, carps are amazingly fertile; their females spawn several hundred thousand berries at a time.
Carp has other names as well. In Kirgizia, it is called sazan, where ‘saz’ means ‘silt, mud’, and ‘an’ means ‘animal’. Here, carp is often called ‘water pig’, as it likes searching for something in the slime, silt, in the very depth of the bottom sediments. Carps are not mobile and are big-eaters. No wonder, they put on weight so quickly.
